A response to Ali Sina's "Kerry For President? An Election Like No Other "

...What is most interesting and striking- even though Ali seems to have admirations for such great minds as Gandhi, Abraham Lincoln et al; whose ideals, principles lie in stark contrast with George W. Bush’s; Ali, nevertheless, adores Bush whose mistaken policy in Iraq has already left 1000+ American soldiers dead, 90 % causality happening to Americans, and 90 % cost having America to bear with. Then there are indiscriminate killings of civilians, women, and children in Iraq. I regret to inform readers- not even once, I saw any mention in Ali’s piece- that although despite out of 19 plain hijackers of 9/11, 17 were from Saudi Arabia, why did Bush pick Saddam? ...

Ali Sina has made a call among American voters to vote George W. Bush so that the world would be a much safer and probably, he thinks, a better place too. He has analyzed 1^st round of presidential debate and has made fierce attempt to show before readers- Bush Junior is a better choice over Senator Kerry. If I recollect my acquaintance and interactions with Mr. Sina some 3 years ago; principle he stands by is- ‘kill Islam, the sick ideology; but not the ordinary Muslims since there do exist vast amount of good people even among Muslims’. He analyzed Mohammed’s life and termed him as a ‘narcissist’ in his essay “Why I Left Islam.” I, too, personally don’t hold Muhammad in high respect and believe- he was a brain manipulator. Yet reading Ali’s recent rhetoric for Bush and against Kerry, in particular, his wrath against Senator Kerry’s utterance ‘to reach out Muslims’ has posed me a question. While analyzing Muhammad’s activities; has Ali himself turned into a sadist lately? If not, why is he so hypersensitive to the generic connotation of a particular religious community? How did he fail to apprehend- an ideology may be parochial, however, that in itself doesn’t make all people belonging/born to it dangerous? Or, has he deviated from his earlier ideological stance? Let’s recall what Ali said:

“Today Islam represents more danger to the world than Nazism presented 70 years ago. I don't think "reaching out to Muslims" is a right policy. I think we should stand tough against Islam and its terrorism. Muslims interpret "reaching out" as the sign of weakness and this encourages them to continue with their quest to conquer the world.”

Not only this. To the contrary, the day following 9/11, G. Bush sent all the influential Saudis living in USA back home in a jet including members of bin Laden family! On fourth day of 9/11, Saudi ambassador was the chief guest in a dinner party at White House! Yet- Ali thinks- Bush Junior is tough on supporters/promoters of terrorists. Coming to Saddam: doesn’t Ali know – how Saddam ascended to power with help of CIA? Doesn’t Ali know – who provided Saddam with weapons and support during war with Iran? Why did Rumsfeld fly to Iraq to meet Saddam during early 1980s? To get rid of Weapon of Mass Destructions (WMD)?

Bin Laden loves to say- whatever he does- he does after being guided by divine message. What did Bush Jr., say a few days ago? He said, he believes- Jesus Christ directs him in all decision makings.

"God told me to strike at al Qaida and I struck them, and then he instructed me to strike at Saddam, which I did, and now I am determined to solve the problem in the Middle East. If you help me I will act, and if not, the elections will come and I will have to focus on them." (source: http://www.unknownnews.net/insanity7.html )

Is Ali suffering from dementia? Otherwise how could he support Bush’s declaration of “crusade”? When the president lets God tell him what to do, it violates the spirit of democracy. In a democracy, it is the people, not God, who make the decisions. The president is supposed to represent the will of the people. Ali should know that a sane president must rely on facts, intelligent analysis, and rational thought-not divine inspiration to make a judgment. Once the president lets God's voice replace the human mind, we are back in the Middle Ages, back in the very situation our revolution was supposed to get us out of. Will this President, who has been attributed as 'The Christian Taliban' from many of the progressive circles be able to make a world a safer place? With a “crusader” on one hand, and a “Jihadi” on the hand? I, for one, don’t want to see either a “crusader”, or a “jihadi”!

Bush does not seem to have much hesitation in identifying God with his own project. In a speech in September 2002, Bush cited a Christological text in reference to his war project: "And the light [America] has shone in the darkness [the enemies of America], and the darkness will not overcome it [America shall conquer its enemies]." In the words of the prophet Isaiah, 'To the captives, come out! to those who are in darkness, be free!'"

Are we reading about the president of a country where Jefferson, James Madison and Benjamin Franklin et al were born? Hard to imagine!

Put aside Muslim. Put aside Palestine issue. Why is that- world’s probably most respected figure Nelson Mandela is so harshly critical of Bush-Blair coterie? Why in Europe except Poland- none wants to see Bush in White House for second term? Why did Venezuela’s President Hugo Chavez is so enraged at Bush? Why did UN G.S. Kofi Anan declare war in Iraq illegal? Are they all biased toward Muslims? My questions to Ali.

Ali, you are humiliating Gandhi by retaining his picture at your website while showing the example of double standard because his whole life Gandhi preached ‘Ahimsa’, or ‘non-violence’. I am citing Gandhi from your site:

"When in despair I remember that all through history the way of truth and love has always won; there have been tyrants and murderers, and for a time they can seem invincible, but in the end they always fall."

Is the “way of truth and love” synonymous as supporting a belligerent president? May be- you care about America! I’m coming to that point.

You also have insulted great Abraham Lincoln, in my opinion, by expressing your support to a warmonger president. Recall Abraham Lincoln’s following saying:

"With malice toward none; with charity for all; with firmness in the right.....Let us strive on....to do all which may achieve and cherish a just and a long lasting peace among ourselves, and with all nations." (4 March 1865)

Does Mr. Bush really believe it?

Ali, if you are not a hypocrite, why can’t you come clean and say: where ever innocent civilians die, be it Christians, Hindus, Muslims, or Jews, or any other type; I must condemn it. Why cannot you raise your voice alongside criticizing Muslim terrorists/their organizations against fascist organizations such as Ku Klax Klan ¹who believe a Christian cannot be non-white and who denigrates Martin Luther King Jr. in the most obscene language? Why don’t you criticize Jewish Defense League (JDL)² which is blacklisted by NYPD? Why not RSS/VHP³ who, too, believes in use of guns?

In your write-up you have elaborated example of Iran. Dare I raise example of my own country Bangladesh! Two mullahs and 1971 war criminals are now in ministry. FYI, one among them paid a visit to USA a few months ago by your Bush administration’s invitation. And guess what? These are the mullahs who made it clear: they believe in Islamic revolution. Last February- they assaulted my country’s leading humanist, author and also a member of our forum ( www.mukto-mona.com ) Professor Dr. Humayun Azad who succumbed to death in Germany lately. Do you think- US embassy in Bangladesh doesn’t know about those mullah’s past records? Funnily- Harry K. Thomas- the US ambassador has been recognizing them as “moderate”! Your misconception (or, illusion?) that having Bush in power in USA will protect the world from Islamic terrorist fits no where, my dear.

Now you may pretend- you are so worried about Americans. Here are some domestic data⁴ for you.

Oh! Forgot to mention about Dick Cheney, Bush’s guru. This man applied veto against release of Nelson Mandela. Nelson Mandela says he worries about Cheney serving in the vice presidency again. Cheney said he voted because he considered "the ANC as a terrorist organization." Do you Ali, as a humanist believe that Mandela and others who fought for an end to apartheid were terrorists? Not only this, Cheney was against Equal rights and increase in Education bill. During his time :

v      He rushed to war in Iraq based on faulty intelligence and wasted $200 billion with no exit strategy.

v      The first administration since Herbert Hoover to lose jobs.

v      Five million more Americans without health care while costs skyrocket.

v      Administration with over 400 Billion fiscal deficits, a record in 70 years!

With the help of my brother, the Governor of Florida, and my father's appointments to the Supreme Court, I became President after losing by over 500,000 votes.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS AS PRESIDENT:

I am the first President in US history to enter office with criminal record.

I invaded and occupied two countries at a continuing cost of over one billion dollars per week.

I am the first president in US history to order an unprovoked, preemptive attack and the military occupation of a sovereign nation. I did so against the will of the United Nations, the majority of US citizens, and the world community.

I spent the US surplus and effectively bankrupted the US Treasury.

I shattered the record for the largest annual deficit in US history.

I set the all-time record for biggest annual budget spending increases, more than any President in US history.

I am the first President in US history to have all 50 states of the Union simultaneously go technically bankrupt.

I have set the all-time record for most people worldwide to simultaneously protest me in public venues (15 million people) shattering the record for protest against any
person in the history of mankind.

I've broken more international treaties than any president in US history.

I signed more laws and executive orders amending the Constitution than any President in US history.

I removed more freedoms and civil liberties for Americans than any other President in US history.

In a little over two years I created the most divided country in decades, possibly the most divided the US has ever been since the Civil War.

I removed more checks and balances, and have the least amount of Congressional oversight, than any Presidential administration in US history.

I'm proud that the members of my cabinet are the richest of any administration in US history. My "poorest millionaire," Condoleeza Rice, has a Chevron oil tanker
named after her.

I created the Ministry of Homeland Security, the largest bureaucracy in the history of the United States government.

I have so far failed to fulfill my pledge to bring Osama Bin Laden and to justice.

I failed to capture the anthrax killer who tried to murder the leaders of our country at the United States Capitol building. After 18 months, I have no leads and zero suspects.
